Choosing Porcelain Veneers
Are They Right For Me?
Porcelain veneers are a good choice if your mouth is healthy and free of issues like gum disease and tooth decay, but you have cosmetic problems like gapped teeth, uneven teeth, teeth that are misshapen, or teeth that are slightly crooked or crowded.
However, veneers can’t be used to treat damaged teeth, or to correct serious orthodontic issues. If you have any major oral health issues or orthodontic problems, they must be corrected before you can get veneers.
In addition, veneers are a permanent and non-reversible treatment. If you commit to getting veneers, you will need to wear them for the rest of your life. Veneers are very durable and long-lasting, but you will need to have your veneers replaced if they ever wear out in the future.
Not sure if veneers are the best option for you? The best way to find out is an appointment with Dr. Ajay Amin at Lighthouse Dental. At your appointment, Dr. Amin can discuss all of your options for cosmetic dentistry, and help you determine if veneers are the best choice for your needs.
Understanding
The Veneers Preparation Process
The first step in the veneers process involves preparing your teeth for porcelain veneers. Once Dr. Amin has approved you for veneers, he will schedule your preparation appointment. At this appointment, your teeth will be trimmed to prepare for veneer placement.
To begin, Dr. Amin will clean and numb your mouth. If you’d like to relax in the dentist’s chair, we also offer sedation dentistry options. Once your mouth is numb, Dr. Amin will use a dental drill to gently remove a thin layer of enamel from each tooth that is getting a veneer.
This layer of enamel is equal in thickness to your veneer. It’s removed to ensure your veneers won’t add any bulk to your teeth or affect your bite, and to allow them to bond properly with your enamel.
Once your teeth have been prepared, Dr. Amin will take dental impressions and images of your teeth. These will be sent to our partner dental lab, where your veneers will be built. Dr. Amin will provide you with a temporary set of resin veneers, which will protect your teeth until your permanent veneers arrive at our office in 2-3 weeks.
Delivering Your Veneers
Completing Your Smile Restoration
Once your permanent veneers have arrived at our office, you’ll come back in to have your veneers delivered, and to complete your smile restoration. Dr. Amin will start by removing your temporary veneers and cleaning your teeth.
Then, your veneers will be checked to ensure they fit perfectly. Dr. Amin may make minor adjustments, if necessary. Once everything looks good, Dr. Amin will use a powerful dental cement to bond your veneers in place permanently. Finally, your teeth will be buffed and polished, completing the procedure. Then, you’ll be sent home to enjoy your brand new smile!
